This document describes the process in which external applications can authenticate a YouMail user against YouMail services.
YouMail currently provides a single mechanism for authenticating. This mechanism requires that the user provide their credentials to the client application, which in turn uses that information to authenticate against a YouMail service. The YouMail service will return an authentication key to be used by the client application in future requests.
The YouMail API uses a REST-style architecture over the HTTP protocol. It should be noted that all exchanges through the YouMail APIs should be used in conjunction with a transport-layer security mechanism to protect sensitive data from malicious eavesdropping. All YouMail APIs can all be accessed using HTTPS.
